"Preface"

- By Dr Gary Harfitt
The Principal of Good Hope School

I have always been drawn to the transformative nature of Experiential learning where students have the chance to knock down their classroom walls and engage with real-life situations and learning opportunities. This STREAM programme involves a wonderful Botany Trail at Good Hope School and it was such a simple, yet original idea. All the best ideas appear to be simple ones, and I was struck by how this STREAM programme was a win-win situation, not just for the Histree Team in the Master of Science in Environmental Management at HKU, but for all our students, colleagues and future ambassadors of Good Hope School who will have a much deeper appreciation of the beauty and landscape of our school campus. We all want to see greater awareness of our natural habitat as well as a stronger protection of the biodiversity that is all around us. Before that can happen, all of us need to take the time to stop and look and I believe that this project will allow for that reflection in our students and visitors. The programme's interdisciplinary nature makes it even more impressive and shines a light on the importance of collaboration across academic subjects and disciplines. My sincerest thanks go to the Histree team for the learning opportunities they have co-created with us and the effort they have put into this meaningful project.
